Charley Thorn

Charley Thorn, Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), is a Deaf Interpreter with over 14 years of professional interpreting experience working in various settings including healthcare, legal, education, and community settings.  Born and raised in a Deaf family, Charley went to American School for the Deaf where he received his education and has always been actively involved with the Deaf community his entire life.

Charley’s interpreting journey began when he started working in the mental health field in 2003 as a direct care worker at the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) in Massachusetts and the former Westborough State Hospital, known now as the Worcester Recovery and Hospital Center, where Deaf patients in clinical settings were receiving services.  Charley's colleagues would often share with him that he had an exceptional way of connecting and communicating effectively with Deaf clients.  That was the beginning of Charley’s career evolution from a direct care worker to a Deaf Interpreter.  Charley attended and graduated from the Road to Deaf Interpreting (RDI) Program in 2011.

After graduation, Charley began interpreting in diverse settings providing equitable access and inclusivity for all.  Discovering his true passion for interpreting and community-wide connection, Charley decided to pursue the Certified Deaf Interpreter certification and recently became a Certified Deaf Interpreter, CDI.

Charley currently works as a full-time Staff Interpreter at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, Connecticut.  Charley also provides freelance interpreting services in New England and beyond.
